Since 2008, we have substantially reduced our carbon footprint from raw material extraction and recycling. Our plants have been fully electrified. Operations are now natural gas-free and the recycling process (crushing and sorting) runs largely on electricity from our own solar panels.
We supply raw materials with a low Environmental Cost Indicator value. Not only for primary sand and gravel, but also for circular raw materials. We also have insight into various ESG data for our customers’ CSRD reports, among other things.
Delivering quality is a basic requirement for how we work. We therefore invest in training and coaching committed professionals. Our people’s safety and well-being is paramount. We work with safe, state-of-the-art equipment. And we encourage our people to optimise processes and make them more sustainable.
We are a recognised training company. Our people stand out through their open attitude and solid entrepreneurial drive, with the space and resources to get the best out of themselves. We keep short lines of communication and honour our agreements. Our actions are underpinned by our dedication and integrity.
We play an active part in our community. That is why we maintain close contact with various stakeholders and invest in a maintained appearance. Our raw material extraction operations in Kalkar, Germany go hand in hand with natural development and recreation around the Kieswerk Wissel project site.
Adjacent to our site in Westervoort is the Driegaarden nature reserve. The hill in this area is a former landfill which we completely remediated ourselves in 1990s. This site was donated by us to Natuurmonumenten in 2018. It is now part of a large nature reserve, accessible to the surrounding area. From the hill, hikers have a great view of the floodplain and the IJssel river.
We support several, often long-term social initiatives. In doing so, we aim to build a sustainable relationship with our local, regional, national and international environment.
Save the Children is the world’s largest independent children’s rights organisation. It helps children worldwide in vulnerable situations from emergencies such as disasters, conflicts or chronic poverty. Putman supports the Child Friendly Spaces in Emergencies project and helps children to cope with physical and mental problems. Through this, we contribute to children’s coping with physical and mental problems.
The VSO Foundation works to develop the poorest areas of Africa and Asia. The foundation brings people with different backgrounds together to bring about lasting change and a fair world with equal opportunities and rights for all. Our contribution helped to accommodate Rohingya refugees.
At N/a’an ku in Namibia, we work with pride and passion to conserve wildlife, landscapes and unique cultures. We have supported several projects .
Saving food, helping people. That is the motto of Table Kalkar’s club of volunteers. Every day, food is collected from shops that would otherwise be thrown away. This food benefits people struggling to make a decent living. At Putman, Kieswerk Wissel, we have been involved in this initiative since 2010.
‘Helping where help is needed’ is the aim of the Dullertsstichting. Residents of Arnhem and the surrounding area receive financial support to help them continue participating in society.
